SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Hardware:
- 8-bit (256) colors or greater
- 6 MB free disk space
- 16 MB RAM installed,10 MB free before running Netscape.
- For streaming audio, a Power Macintosh or 68040 Macintosh with an FPU
Software:
- System 7.1.2 or greater
- Netscape Navigator: 2.x or 3.0 (or compatible)
or
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0
For optimum performance when using Shockwave in Netscape, it is recommended that you increase Netscape's preferred memory partition size. To do this, follow these steps:
• Quit Netscape Navigator.
• While in the Finder, select your Netscape Navigator icon.
• Choose "Get Info" from the File menu.
• Set Netscape's Preferred Size to 9,000k or more, provided you have sufficient RAM installed on your machine.
• Close the "Info" window and relaunch Netscape.
• When Netscape has reloaded, select "Network Preferences" from the Options menu. Set the cache size setting to at least 5 megabytes.
SHOCKWAVE MULTIMEDIA PLAYER
If you just installed Shockwave into Netscape Navigator 3.0 and you see a broken icon when navigating to a Shockwave site then follow these steps.
1. While in Netscape Navigator 3.0, select 'General Preferences' from the 'Options' menu.
2. Click on the 'Helpers' tab of the General Prefences dialog.
3. In the list of helpers, scroll down and select 'application/x-director'.
4. Press the 'Edit' button.
5. Select the 'Plug-in:' radio button in the 'Handled by' section of the 'Edit Type' dialog.
6. Choose 'NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave'.
If you get Out of Memory Errors (5 or -108) when running on Netscape Navigator, increase Netscape's application memory to 8000 Kb and restart Netscape.
Avoid using Virtual Memory. Avoid using Speed Doubler. Open Transport users should install version 1.1b10 or greater.
SHOCKWAVE GRAPHICS PLAYER
Changes made to this version of the Shockwave Graphics Player:
• Fixed a problem where dashed lines did not always display correctly.
• Fixed a problem where specialty characters appeared incorrectly in text placed in columns.
• Fixed a problem where Type 1 fonts displayed with negative character spacing.

SHOCKWAVE INTRANET PLAYER
The Security Dialog Box
=======================
When you launch an Authorware piece from the network, the Security dialog box appears. The dialog box also appears when one Authorware piece jumps to another or when an Authorware piece uses GotoNetPage to go to another Authorware file that's on the
net.
The Security dialog box lets you designate the network location where an Authorware file is located as trusted or not. If you choose not to trust the location, the file will open but it may not work properly.
The Shockwave AW Player displays the Security dialog box every time it opens an Authorware file unless you tell it not to. You can have the Player by-pass the dialog box when you're going to trusted locations by unchecking the checkbox next to Show Security Dialog Box When Opening Trusted Sites. For more information, see the next section. To force the Player to open the Security Dialog box regardless of this setting, hold down the
Control key when the Player is opening an Authorware file.
Security Options Dialog Box
===========================
Use the Security Options dialog box to change security settings, edit locations, and choose when you want the Security dialog box to appear. To open the Security Options dialog box, click the Security Options button in the Security dialog box.
The Security Options dialog box lets you save a list of locations or URLs that you trust. That allows you both to keep the browser in non-trusting mode for general net surfing, and at the same time to go to trusted locations and run complex files that download XCMDs and Xtras without having to turn trusting mode on each time.
The settings in the Security Options dialog box work this way:
o Trust Only Listed Locations
Runs Authorware pieces from selected locations in trusting
mode. Click the Add Location or Modify Location buttons to
make changes to the list.
o Trust All Locations
Runs Authorware pieces from all locations in trusting mode.
o Show Security Dialog Box When Opening Trusted Locations
Determines whether or not the Security dialog box appears
when you're about to run a file from a location you trust.
If the checkbox is checked, the Security dialog box appears;
if it isn't checked, the Security dialog box doesn't appear.
Even if you leave the checkbox unchecked, you can hold down
the Control key when the Plug-In is opening an Authorware file
to override the setting and display the Security dialog box.
The buttons in the Security Options dialog box work like this:
o Add Location
Adds the current location to the list of trusted locations.
Add Location won't add a location to the list if it's already
there. You can edit a location so that the portion of a web
site that you're trusting is broader than a single, specific
URL. For example, if you want to trust all the Authorware
pieces on the Macromedia web site, you'd edit the current
location to http://www.macromedia.com and add that location to
the list.
o Delete Location
Deletes the selected entry.
o Modify Location
Copies the current location to the text edit field at the
bottom of the dialog box, where you can make changes to it.
Modify Location won't allow you to change a location to a
location that's already on the list.
o Save Settings
Saves the settings and the current list of trusted locations
to the prefs.ini file.
o Cancel
Cancels any changes you've made to the dialog box settings
during the current session.
Error Messages
If you've chosen not to trust a location and the Authorware file there attempts to perform an operation that might affect the security of your system, the Player displays an error message.
